Decommissioning a Swimming Pool

A couple who had purchased a lodge at Motueka, that came with a pond, were surprised 4 years later when they got a visit from a council inspector who told them the pond had once been a swimming pool and needed a compliant barrier.  The couple said the pond, which had frogs, reeds and rocks in it, wasn’t a swimming pool but a pond.

The fact that it was now a pond was self evident but the reality is that is not what was on their Land Information Memorandum (LIM).  Merely renaming a swimming pool and wishing it away is not a good option for a legal document.  IQPIs can decommission a swimming pool and report the fact to Council that will then remove it from the LIM and eliminate the problem.
